Birkholm tent and shelter site
Discover the small island of Birkholm with accommodation in shelters or tents, close to the harbour, water and nature – perfect for those who love peace and simplicity.
Spend your holiday on Birkholm
Birkholm is one of Denmark's smallest islands, where you can enjoy a unique overnight experience in two modern shelters beautifully situated by the harbour. The shelters can accommodate a total of nine people – one shelter sleeps five, the other three to four. You must book and pay in advance to ensure you have a place when you arrive.
If the shelters are already occupied, there is also a cosy tent pitch right next door. No advance booking is required here, but payment is easily made at the machine in the open shed at Birkholm Harbour.
On Birkholm, you can cook on the barbecue at the harbour – remember to bring your own firewood.
Drinking water can be obtained at the community centre, which is located approx. 600 metres from the shelter site. Toilet facilities are available at the harbour, but it is a good idea to bring your own toilet paper. Close to the shelters and the tent pitch, you have a view of the calm water – just 40 metres away.
Experiences nearby
On Birkholm, the experiences are all about peace and presence. The island is small and idyllic with beautiful natural areas, small paths and a rich bird life. Take a walk around the island, enjoy the view of the sea and experience the atmosphere among the few permanent residents. At the harbour, you can often meet the locals. The island is also perfect for those who want to switch off from everyday life, turn off their mobile phones and just be in nature.
How to get here
To get to Birkholm, take the Birkholmposten post boat from Marstal. The crossing takes about 20 minutes and the boat returns the following day. Remember to reserve your seats on the boat at least one day in advance. The Birkholmposten sails both in the morning and in the afternoon, so it's easy to plan your trip. When you arrive on the island, the shelter site is right by the harbour.
