Built up from materials from the cliffs along the southeast coast of Ærø, brought here by eastward, coast-parallel ocean currents. Formed in shallow water across the westernmost part of an arcuate submarine sill, representing an approximately 17-18,000-year-old ice margin line from the Weichselian Belt Sea advance. The line continues over towards Langeland, where it meets the Ristinge Hale area
