The Old Shipyard
Det Gamle Værft offers engaging experiences and learning about the sea and traditional craftsmanship.
Det Gamle Værft offers engaging experiences and learning about the sea and traditional craftsmanship for all ages at the historic harbour of Ærøskøbing.
In the shipyard hall, you'll find stories told through wood, metal, and thread brought to life in our workshops, where you can work with your hands in carpentry and heat iron at the forge, guided by professionals from the world of traditional crafts.
For the little ones, enjoy the large creative table filled with recycled materials, glue guns, beads, and other treasures inspired by the sea.
Det Gamle Værft’s exhibitions tell the story of the shipyard’s origins shortly after the historic storm surge that destroyed nearly a third of the Danish navy in the late 1800s, and about the schooner Fylla, a three-masted schooner over 100 years old that still sails today in the UNESCO-designated South Fyn Archipelago Geopark.
When visiting this exciting site, don’t miss the unique shop featuring a curated selection from local artisans and producers, located near the ferry terminal in Ærøskøbing.
Det Gamle Værft is a social enterprise that also offers educational programs for school camps, companies, and special events.
